Officials in China have announced tentative plans to build a 125-mile long underwater tunnel for a train system that would bring passengers from the capital city of Beijing all the way to the United States and back.

Wang Mengshu, from the Chinese Academy of Engineering is quoted as saying: “Right now we're already in discussions. Russia has already been thinking about this for many years.”

The train system would go from China, through Eastern Russia, under the Bering Strait, through Alaska and into Canada.

All told, the "China-Russia-Canada-America" line would reach about 8 thousand miles long, which is 18 hundred miles further than the Trans-Siberian railroad that travels through Russia, China, and Mongolia.

Estimates say that the project would cost more than 200 billion dollars, and China is already in the middle of several massive infrastructure projects. Among them is building the longest underwater tunnel on the planet, a 76-mile long passageway that will connect two northern port cities.
