Jeremy Veach, who works for the Centerville Police Department had been standing outside a stopped vehicle on the driver’s side. While speaking to the motorist, the tree violently crashed towards the ground as chunks of wood went flying.
Veach quickly fell to the pavement. Amazingly he was able to crawl out from underneath the wood and limp towards his cruiser. The terrifying ordeal was captured on camera.
Aside from the initial pain, Veach suffered bumps and bruises and only required three stitches to the elbow. He did however, go home with tree bark in unexpected places.
He said he pulled bark out of his ears and hair for quite some time. The stopped driver’s car absorbed most of the impact from the falling tree, which may have helped save Veach’s life.
The owners' of the pine said it looked healthy. There was no wind on the night of the incident, proving it was most likely a rare freak accident.
