A new prom king at Centennial High School in Las Vegas is actually a girl. Skyler Galliher, who is a high school senior, says she’s thrilled to be prom king.
Skyler claims she got the idea to run for king after her friend, Summer Brother made it known she was gunning for prom queen. Skyler thought Summer would certainly win, so she didn’t even think to run.
But when Summer suggested she run alongside her as prom king, Skyler thought that idea could work. The pair talked about Skyler running for prom king, but at first they deemed it as a joke.
Soon Skyler decided to see if she could actually garner enough votes to become prom king. Probably because of her unisex name, she made it on the first ballot.
When teachers and student council members found out she’s a girl, they tried adding more names to the ballet to counterbalance her numbers.
As word spread that a female was running for prom king, many students made it clear they weren’t happy about it. All that negativity only prompted Skyler and Summer to go all out and start a grassroots campaign to get votes.
It obviously worked and now the two good friends have officially been named prom king and queen.
