If you’ve been paying attention to photos of the North Korean leader, you may have noticed he’s commonly surrounded by people who are holding notepads and appear to be jotting down his every word.

Well, there’s a reason for that. It boils down to the fact that Kim Jong-un dishes out advice every chance he gets. BBC recently reported on photos that show the leader watching women taking part in a multiple-rocket launching drill.

The images usually depict a swarm of men standing around him, armed with pens and notepads. The group is comprised of party members, government officials and soldiers.

Prof James Grayson, who is a Korea expert at the University of Sheffield says that Kim Jong-un is shown offering the men what is called ‘on-the-spot guidance’ which is something his grandfather did about 6 decades ago.

Grayson commented “These are pictures that will be broadcast on television and shown in the state media, so those who are there want to be seen recording Kim Jong-un's every word. It's about presenting him as having broad knowledge.”

The note takers have to be exceptionally careful what they jot down, to ensure their memos are accurate. That way, nothing can get them in hot water in the future.
