Police in Washington D.C. are trying to determine what caused a very bizarre accident. At around 3 in the morning, a car went airborne and landed against a tree.
The vehicle was left in the vertical position, with the hood reaching the upper portion of the tree and the back end resting on the ground. No one is quite sure what went wrong, but it was mentioned that the car was traveling northbound on South Capitol Street at a high rate of speed just prior to the violent wreck.
Somehow the operator lost control and smashed into two trees, one of which ended up being the final destination of the auto. The male driver was trapped inside the car when first responders arrived at the scene.
He was freed and swiftly transported to a local hospital. His condition was deemed critical.
The investigation of the accident caused numerous streets in the vicinity to be temporarily closed. South Capitol Street between C Street SE and D Street SE was taped off.
