What you see here is a typical French door with a sweeping door handle. Shutters are no problem on a door like this. As you will see we do a cutout to accommodate the sweeping door handle and it looks really nice. This cutout typically can be done with wood, poly and vinyl shutters. This cutout requires more time in fabrication so typically you will see a cutout add an additional $175-$200 to the price of the shutter.
Another option would be to change out the door handle to a round handle which in most cases eliminates the need for a cutout. You can use all size louvers for French doors but keep in mind that the larger the louvers the more clearance the shutter needs to clear the glass which means a bigger build-out of the shutter. Typically 2 ½”, 3 ½”, and 4 ½” louvers work the best for French doors.
