STORY: More aid is pledged to the Philippines after one of the world's most powerful typhoons.
The head of the European Community Humanitarian Office Kristaline Georgieva has promised that aid from the EU will exceed 25 million U.S. dollars.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) HEAD OF THE EUROPEAN EUROPEAN COMMUNITY HUMANITARIAN OFFICE (ECHO), KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA, SAYING:
"The Commission is providing an additional seven million euros, that brings the funding from the European Commission to 20 million euros for immediate relief and also for building early recovery, because clearly the need of shelter here is enormous"
The United Nations says that international aid is finally reaching the worst hit areas in the central Philippines after a super typhoon ripped through the country.
But the UN says still more needs to be done with nearly two million homeless and thousands dead.
