An Iowa homeowner has been the target of three arson attempts in the month of August. Each time, rolls of paper towels were left to burn on a lit gas stove.
The most recent attempt was caught just in time by a neighbor.
He said he heard the fire alarms go off and saw smoke coming from the house so he ran over to check it out.
After finding the back door unlocked he entered and saw that the flames were spreading quickly.
The neighbor called 911 and the fire was extinguished. The firefighters confirmed that the cause was paper towels contacting a lit burner.
Police had been there just a week before, investigating a similar incident.
In that attempt the investigators were unable to find the arsonist’s point of entry, but were told by the homeowners that they may have left the door unlocked.
More interestingly, they told police this wasn’t the first time burning paper towels had been found on their stove that day.
The homeowners said the same thing had happened only hours before, but didn’t report it as no damage had been done.
