In this week's edition of Politics first, 9 years ago the Congress initiated a unique style of governance; one that has been slammed by the Opposition time and again as being a dual power center arrangement with Sonia Gandhi as head of the coalition and Manmohan Singh as head of the government. Congress was so satisfied with the formula that in 2009 it broke away from tradition and announced for the first time Dr. Manmohan Singh as their Prime Ministerial candidate. But things have changed rather dramatically in the last 4 years with Manmohan Singh now not being seen as 'mister clean' and his governance has come to be associated with indifference and corruption. There is in fact now a sense within the Congress that perhaps Manmohan Singh is nearing his political expiry date.
