Hallett Cove Death Spiral

After a couple of minutes I lost control as the R/C locked up. When the R/C failed, the pan servo rotated all the way by itself and jammed hard against its stop. The other controls were unresponsive and the plane entered a death spiral. It crashed about 100m behind me, and just after impact the R/C unlocked, as can be evidenced by the pan servo returning to centre. R/C worked normally on test. The plane survived almost unscathed, with just the fin and tailplane demolished. Wings and fuzz were fine. The cause of the failure was a jammed gearbox on a flap servo. This caused ths servo's amp to fry itself and short out the 5VDC bus. The short blew clear just after the crash and control returned. This can be seen as the pan servo returns to centre. If you listen closely you can hear the short at about 3:30!
