DESANIMADA (short fiction, drama, 2013) Technical Specifications: Runtime: 16:15 Color Presentation Text: Discouraged is a woman´s story who survives in a marginal neighborhood. She walks through the narrow alleys of her neighborhood, overwhelmed by the weight of everyday life, looking for hope in her present. The woman´s life suddenly changes as a result of rape. She falls into a deep depression and her life is empty. She takes refuge in alcohol in an attempt to escape from that suffocating reality, and therefore she becomes invisible to society. The only way out for her is suicide. During the delirium which precedes her death, in an instant, the protagonist imagines a different future, a happy life where she achieves her goals and lives in harmony with the realization of her rights, her aspirations for social recognition, family and personal fulfillment. This is the situation of many women who suffer in silence a gender-based violence, both physical and psychological abuses. At least one in three women around the world has suffered throughout her life an act of domestic violence (abuse, rape, harassment). Several international organizations report that this type of violence is the leading cause of death and disability for women between ages 15 and 44 years. The most obvious and violent form of male domination of women is rape. This is part of machismo that considers women as an object meant to satisfy the sexual needs of men.
