In 1953, Ore-Ida Potato Products Inc didn't know what to do with the small pieces of deep fried potato leftover from it's frozen french fry manufacturing. After creating a bite sized potato log snack, Ore-Ida owners F. Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg held a contest for employees to name the new product. Clora Lay Orton won with the name Tater Tots.
